The Foundation was established by Gladstone’s Late Mayor, Col Brown to provide financial support to the Region’s young sports people selected for either state representation (QLD Team) to compete at a national championship event or national representation (Australian Team) to compete at an international championship event. Financial assistance is available to individual sportspeople up to 25 years of age competing in sporting events at interstate or international level.
Applications may be lodged at any time of the year, however applications must be received a minimum of 14 days prior to competition for assessment purposes.
Funding assistance provided by the Trust may vary between national and international competitions within Queensland, interstate and overseas.
Eligible People
To be eligible, sportspersons must be 25 years of age or under at the time of the event for which they are applying and permanent residents of the Gladstone Region Local Government area. Sportspersons that reside in other areas who regularly compete for a sport club based in the Gladstone Region may be considered though priority will be given to permanent residents.
The Trust will only consider applications from competing athletes. Referees, coaches and other officials are ineligible to apply.
Eligible applicants can receive a maximum of $1,000 in any twelve (12) month period.

- Equipment and uniforms may be considered for assistance if all other funding opportunities have been exhausted. Proof will need to be provided.
Ineligible items for assistance
- Food and beverages
- Expenditure associated with additional activities/items not associated with competition
- Parents/family or guardian expenses

Selection Criteria
Applications assessed by the Gladstone & District Sports Foundation Trust Committee are decided against the following selection criteria.
- The applicant is 25 years old or younger and a permanent resident of the Gladstone Regional Council Local Government area
- The applicant has been selected for either state (QLD Team) or national (Australian Team) representation
- The applicant is a member of a Gladstone Region sport club/association
- Financial assistance is sought to compete at national or international level (Qld or Australian representative)
- The applicant has received no more than $1,000 in financial assistance from the Foundation in the previous 12-month period
- Other financial contributions are confirmed by the applicant, Refer to Question 9
- The applicant has provided evidence of selection via an official letter of selection or endorsement by Club/Association/School official
- The applicant has provided a complete breakdown of funds required to enable them to attend the event and compete
- The application form has been fully completed and received at least 14 days prior to the event
Proof of Expenditure
The Gladstone & District Sports Foundation Trust requires proof of expenditure prior to releasing funds. Statement of expenditure with receipts for items must be presented to the Trust within one (1) month after the event.
Acknowledgement of assistance
Successful applicants may be required to attend a presentation to receive the assistance from the Trust which may involve a photograph and editorial for local media.
Policy on Drugs in Sport
The Gladstone and District Sports Foundation is opposed to the use of prohibited drugs, stimulants, anabolic steroids and blood doping by athletes as performance enhancing agents (all of which are hereinafter referred to as doping).
Any athlete who is found by his/her State Body, National Body, International Body, the Australian Commonwealth Games Federation or the International Olympic Committee, to have engaged in doping practices will be ineligible for any financial assistance or other assistance from the Gladstone and District Sports Foundation.
The Gladstone and District Sports Foundation Trust endorse the Queensland Government’s policy on drugs in sport, which the above policy is based.
